About Ted

Building on students’ interests and pursuing their inspiration.

I’ve helped drum students since the late 1980s. Sharing the methods, music, and techniques I’ve learned over the years has proven to be a constant source of inspiration and satisfaction. Completion of a music diploma in Performance from Humber College and a Masters Degree in Popular Music & Culture from Western University has instilled an extensive knowledge of music, drumming, percussion, and its history.

At Humber College I studied with Roger Flock (Rudiments & Technique), Memo Acevedo (Latin), Don Vickery (Traditional Jazz), Bob McLaren (Modern Jazz), and Paul DeLong (Rock, Funk & Fusion). At Western University I studied drum set & multi-percussion with D’Arcy Gray (London Symphonia), African percussion with professors Bob Hughes, and snare drum with Jill Ball.

Professional experiences include writing, recording, touring, video, radio and television performances with Canadian indie bands, artist and jingle sessions in Toronto; a 2-year audio engineering apprenticeship with Nick Blagona (nickblagona.com); recording and touring the US with Chicago blues artist Tino Gonzales; 20 years of orchestra pit performances at the Grand Theatre; education and pops concerts with Orchestra London Canada; and 5-years as Secretary-Treasurer for the London Musicians Association, AFM Local 279.

AitkenLaddPeacock

Music Improv Group

The fundamental logic of the improvising that we do in AitkenLaddPeacock is based on live interaction. The nuances of expression, gesture, and other forms of immediate physical movement are crucial to how the music emerges.

My Philosophy

1

Play the Drums

Playing the drums like a kid with a new toy is one of the keys to becoming a more creative musician and interactive performer.

2

Rhythmic Tradition

The sounds and rhythms drummers play in all genres of music draw from a resource of rhythmic traditions.

3

Focused Practice

Establishing a short daily routine that guides focused practice time provides lasting results.

Let’s meet online!

Whether your just beginning to explore an interest in drumming or if you’re experienced drummer wanting to expand your abilities we will work together to achieve excellent results.
